A missing kayaker was discovered dead on a Barrington beach, and Rhode Island authorities are looking into the incident.
Due to the kayaker’s son’s inability to contact his father, the search was launched on Sunday at Conimicut Point in Warwick at approximately 5 p.m.
Kayaker was Found Dead in Rhode Island
Michael Healey of the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management said that the kayaker’s body was discovered along Barrington Town Beach and that it was officially determined to be deceased.
Timothy Chant, a 60-year-old Warwick resident, was missing since Sunday at midday. He was last seen launching his boat from Conimicut Point in Warwick.
Throughout the evening, rescue personnel in Hyde Hole searched the beach and the surrounding waters with the assistance of boats and a helicopter.
Police Investigation
At around seven o’clock in the evening, news crews saw officials at Barrington Beach’s Rhode Island Country Club removing a kayak from the water.
Just before 5 p.m. on Sunday, Warwick Police Captain Charles Boisseau said the department received a call regarding a missing kayaker.
Boisseau continued, saying he thought Chant had been gone for almost five hours before Warwick became involved.
The Warren Police Department said that it was also conducting a search.
Officials said that the incident is still being looked into.
