How did Eoin Coss die?
A devoted basketball fan from Mountmellick, Co. Laois named Eoin Coss has gone away. Mountmellick Utd FC, his team, posted their homage to him on their social media profile with the following message:
“Words can seem hollow at times like this. No matter what is said, they don’t offer much solace. One of our brightest young stars tragically passed away this morning after a fight so bravely borne. Eoin Coss went away quietly at home, surrounded by his loving parents, Kevin and Martina, and his beloved brothers. He was only 14 years old.
“Eoin’s acceptance of his diagnosis less than a year ago and preparation for the fight ahead was in no way surprising to anyone who knew him, whether they knew him on the soccer field or not. Despite the challenging last 12 months, his cheeky smile, quick wit, and charm never wavered. He never once lost his love of sports or simply being out and about.
The squad also mentioned his passion for the game and playing career in their article honouring him.
“Eoin Coss leaves behind a legacy that belies his young age, and while all we can feel is sorrow at his premature loss, we know that the impression he has left on all of us is irreversible. He continues to live on in the teammates he inspired, the friends he had laughs with, and the family that will always love him. His lovely soul may now rest in peace.
Eoin Coss cause of death:
Cancer was Eoin Coss’s cause of death. Eoin Coss, a teenage football player from Mountmellick, was given a rare cancer diagnosis a year ago. He received thorough treatment at Crumlin Children’s Hospital.
Eoin is a great, upbeat, and confident young man with a positive outlook. He battled illness with fortitude, bravery, and the support of his loved ones. Sadly, on November 10, 2022, Eoin passed away.
Even though it may sound cliche, everyone who knew Eoin knew he was a young man destined for great things. When he first joined our soccer programme at the age of 7, he immediately displayed the qualities that would set him apart for the rest of his life. Due to his considerable strength compared to other players his age, Eoin stood out in the academy setup. However, this was only a hint of things to come because he continued to be the one who stood out for the rest of his tragically brief athletic career. He won games and inspired his colleagues to do the same by seizing control of them.
Nothing less than his absolute best was acceptable. This mindset and drive helped Eoin become the captain of each team he played on as he progressed through the age divisions and his selection for every region and league representative panel that was available.
He was equally adept at using his feet, head, and heart. He was a modest champion who showed sportsmanship and a sense of fair play that even the most celebrated international sports stars could take a cue from. His father, Kevin, coached teams that heavily relied on the input of their star player, his son Eoin, and was by his side for every stage of his athletic adventure.
Eoin is a devoted soccer fan, and his two favourite teams are Liverpool and Shamrock Rovers. Any of Eoin’s coaches or colleagues will attest that he possessed all the qualities necessary to have worn the fabled green and white hoops of Rovers or even the all-red of Liverpool FC. We all know how talented Eoin was and how great he could have been, but fate had other plans. As a result, we at the club, the sporting community as a whole, but most of all, his devoted family will never get to watch this young superstar grow into the outstanding sportsman and the even better man he undoubtedly would have been.
Who was Eoin Coss?
Eoin was a great soccer and GAA player from Mountmellick who was 14 years old. He represented his town in both sports. He represents Mountmellick in both football and soccer. Coss received a cancer diagnosis recently, and the whole neighbourhood stepped up to help him fight the disease.
Following a shocking cancer diagnosis in February, a fundraising campaign was started for a 13-year-old lad. Additionally, a Gofundme page was created to generate money for the young player, and as a result, support came from outside the local area. Further, to raise funds for Eoin Coss, Warren Evans from Tullamore, Tracy Duncan, and AnnMarie Flanagan from Portlaoise prepared a skydive.
