Bailey Resigned Due to His Wife’s Deteriorating Health
According to a report published on Sunday night by the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal, the newspaper in the Texas city where Tillery-Bailey previously held the position of president of Texas Tech University, Tillery-Bailey had not fared well following major surgery last week.
After only 58 days in the position, Bailey abruptly resigned as president of the university. He said that his decision was motivated by his wife’s declining health and that Tillery-Bailey would have been extremely taxed by the social obligations.
In a January interview, Bailey confirmed that his wife had battled cancer and that complications from surgery had severely restricted her daily activities, though he did not specify the medical issues she was experiencing.
Bailey was born in Montgomery and has two UA degrees. Like her husband, Tillery-Bailey was an expert in linguistics. The couple, wedding for quite some time, shared expert cooperation in the investigation of language.
