On Christmas Day, a mother described as “funny and brilliant” perished after her Mini Cooper slipped into a river. The woman has received a deluge of tributes.

In Swansea, South Wales, a Mini Cooper crash into the River Tawe claimed the lives of 36-year-old Rachel Curtis and another man.

Rachel, a 36-year-old self-employed nail technician and volunteer, and her companion Jay Jenkins were found dead after the car smashed through a barrier and fell into 20 feet of water on Christmas morning.

Mini Cooper crash: Explained

Police have identified the two people they discovered in the River Tawe on Christmas Day in Swansea. On Christmas Day, emergency services were contacted at about 3:05 am as a result of reports that a car had entered the River Tawe at New Cut Road. A fully submerged black Mini John Cooper Works was discovered in the river.

Nearby, the bodies of two people, both 36 years old, were discovered. The driver of the mini has now been identified as Rachel Curtis from Swansea’s #Bonymaen neighbourhood, according to South Wales Police.

The vehicle’s male driver is identified as Jay Kyle Jenkins, a resident of the St. Thomas region. Specially trained officers continue to assist their families.

Who was Rachel Curtis?

The family of Rachel said in a statement: “Rachel was a humorous, intelligent, and unique individual. She was highly gifted in the arts. At the Liberty Stadium, she taught therapeutic art and nail art.

She taught self-defence and advanced security tactics and served as a door supervisor and close protection officer.

She financially contributed to the Jack Lewis Foundation’s success as a nonprofit dedicated to preventing suicide. Rachel also donated money to the “Matthews House” homeless charity and participated in youth programmes that helped young ladies.

They said she would be “greatly missed,”, especially by her 14-year-old son Rhys. Rachel’s friend Lucia Walker said: “Rest in peace. Rachel Curtis, I still have a hard time accepting that you left. Conversations with you and your outrageous sense of humour will be missed.

Police Investigation

“Thanks to your craziness and eccentricity, my time at university was made to be remembered. Your sense of humour, intellect and artistic talent will live on my memory forever. Police have launched an accident investigation and are looking for any pertinent details.

Checks are being made on the mechanical condition of the $26,000 recovered automobile. According to South Wales Police, everyone who interacted with Rachel or Jay before the tragedy should be notified, as should anyone with any CCTV, dashcam footage, or other pertinent information.

According to the Welsh Ambulance Service, two fast-response vehicles and two road ambulances were sent in response to a call received at 3:07 a.m.
