In Los Angeles, Octavia Spencer was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame

Octavia Spencer, full name Octavia Lenora Spencer. She was born on 25th May 1970, in Montgomery, Alabama, U.S., and is an American actress renowned for several modest, often comedic parts before her breakthrough in The Help (2011). Spencer earned an Academy Award, a Golden Globe Award, and a BAFTA Award for her work as an opinionated maid in early 1960s Mississippi.

She is an amazing comedian

She was the youngest of seven children and grew up in Montgomery, Alabama. She had an early interest in performing, but she believed it an unrealistic profession. She received a bachelor’s degree in English from Auburn University in 1994 and afterwards worked in local casting for Alabama-filmed films. Spencer auditioned for one of these films, the 1996 thriller A Time to Kill, and was offered a modest speaking role that began her career as an actress.

She was cast in the lesser comedy The Sixth Man and Sparkler in 1997, and she appeared as a guest on television programs such as Moesha and ER in 1998. Spencer stayed in this position, usually as a nurse, for the next several years, receiving recognition for her appearances in the 1999, 2000, and 2003 feature-length comedies Being John Malkovich, Big Momma’s House, and Bad Santa, as well as for a recurring part on Ugly Betty in 2007.

By 2009, Spencer was mainly recognized as a comedy actor with a reputation for stealing the show. Tate Taylor, the director of The Help, was a personal friend of both Spencer and Kathryn Stockett (who authored the 2009 novel on which the film was based), and both thought Spencer was the ideal choice for the role of the outspoken maid Minny Jackson. Spencer excelled in the part, and her acting flexibility was no longer questioned.
