Angela Merkel, not Boris Johnson, “is America’s best friend in the world” – 6/24/2021 – Nelson de Sá

Moscow and London tabloids Komsomolskaya Pravda and Daily Mail explored scenes off the coast of Crimea throughout the day, confirming Russian warning shots against the British warship.

There were threats from both sides, including from Prime Minister Boris Johnson, featured in the London Times. In Berlin, alongside Angela Merkel, State Secretary Antony Blinken said, not to mention what was happening:

“The United States has no better friend in the world than Germany.”

It has been released through agencies and on the Politico website, noting that it would arouse “envy among British officials, who boast of having a ‘special relationship’ with the United States.” Invited by Joe Biden, Merkel goes to the White House on the 15th.

She called for the resumption of EU summit meetings with Vladimir Putin, following Biden’s meeting with the Russian president. But in London, from the Daily Mail to the Financial Times, the headline went to the reaction from Latvia – and Ukraine.

MERKEL BEGINS TO SAY

From Süddeutsche to Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, the German press has highlighted the Chancellor’s latest report to parliament, “sober and routine”. He touched on the pandemic (above, “We, as the EU, have given an extraordinary response to an extraordinary crisis”) and relations with Russia.

He led his chosen one in succession, Armin Laschet.
