The letter to Justice Alexandre de Moraes of the Supreme Court was sent after Musk declared last week that he would appeal a ruling made by Moraes directing X, the old name of Twitter, to block specific users in the nation of South America.
The action represents a shift in position from X’s Brazilian division, which stated last week in a different letter provided to Moraes that it was unable to influence the U.S.-based company’s readiness to abide by the rulings of the Brazilian court.
Musk, the founder of X and a self-described absolutist in free expression, had earlier said that he would overturn all of Moraes’s limits because they were unlawful and that the judge ought to step down.
In response, Moraes launched an investigation into the millionaire, accusing him of obstructing justice.
X had earlier on Monday announced that it had received a subpoena from the U.S. House of Representatives Judiciary Committee for information on content moderation orders from the Brazilian Supreme Court.
The social media platform’s attorneys informed Moraes that X had complied with the committee’s request for it to provide private court records and that they would keep the judge informed of any developments from X Corp. on the subject.
