Uncle Doug” Mulray, a larrikin in the great Australian customs, was a good man and a tremendous radio broadcaster. He recently passed away on Friday at the age of 71 after having a long battle with illness.
Who Was Doug Mulray?
Douglas John Mulray, better known by his nickname Uncle Doug, was an Australian comedian, radio and television host, and presenter who was born on 1st December of the year 1951 and passed away on 30th March of this year. Doug had been raised in the Dee Why neighbourhood of the Northern Beaches in Sydney, Australia.
Mulray started his profession at 2AD in Armidale, in the wake of doing a telecom course at the Digamae (Pole Muir’s) Radio School. From that point he joined his direction south, protecting a spot with Focal Coast station 2GO Gosford.
Mulray has also appeared on Australian television shows like Beauty and the Beast and hosted infamous Australia’s Naughtiest Home Videos outside of radio. He also hosted the show with the same name, Mulray, which aired for a short time on the Seven Network in the early 1990s. Moreover, in the year 2002, he also hosted Beauty and the Beast on Network Ten.
Doug Mulray Passed Away
Australian entertainer and radio host Doug Mulray has died at 71 years. The Sydney radio star made a name for himself in the 1980s by dominating commercial broadcasting with his creativity and stunts, but his television show Australia’s Naughtiest Home Video was then pulled by Channel Nine owner Kelly Packer after just 34 minutes.
After Packer saw clips of animals being treated badly with a boy pulling the testicles of a kangaroo, accompanied by Mulray’s commentary, in the year 1992, he called his television station and told them to get that shit off the air. A “Cheers” episode took its place, and Mulray did not return to Nine for another ten years.
His Family Confirmed His died
After a prolonged illness, Mulray died on Thursday, according to his family. His wife Lizzie and three children survive him. According to his family’s official statement, Murlay died peacefully yesterday, with his longtime partner Lizzie and business partner Hamish Cameron by his side.
Moreover, Murlay’s show’s rating share increased from 2.6% to over 18% during the early years of Triple M and FM radio, propelling Triple M to the top spot. Furthermore, Doug Marley was a very private person and has deliberately stayed out of the spotlight for the last 20 years since retiring from the industry. When he was inducted into his Australian Hall of Fame, he quipped that “it was time”.
