Loris Karius is a German professional football (soccer) player who was born on June 22, 1993, in Biberach an der Riss, Germany. He is a goalkeeper who currently plays for Union Berlin on loan from Liverpool FC.
Karius began his football career in the youth system of VfB Stuttgart before moving to Manchester City in 2009. He spent two seasons with the City academy before moving to Germany to join Mainz 05 in 2011.
Karius made his professional debut for Mainz 05 in the 2012-2013 season and went on to make 91 appearances for the club. His performances caught the eye of Liverpool FC, who signed him in 2016.
During his tenure at Liverpool, Karius was the team’s starting goalkeeper and led the club to the final of the UEFA Champions League in 2018. In addition, Karius was named the 2017-18 Premier League Player of the Year. Unfortunately, he was responsible for Liverpool’s loss to Real Madrid in the final after making a number of mistakes that received a lot of attention. Karius was born to Christine and Harald Karius in Biberach, Baden-Württemberg. Harald wanted his son Loris to be a motocross racer, but Loris’ grandpa Karl pushed him towards a career in football.
Before moving to UK in 2009, Karius was privately educated at the Pestalozzi-Gymnasium Biberach.
