According to the authorities and a source, an Indiana man died after falling from a cliff in Puerto Rico that was around 70 feet tall while he was making videos for social media on Sunday.
After falling down a high coastal cliff in the vicinity of a lighthouse in Cabo Rojo, the corpse of Edgar Garay, who had been immersed in the water, was retrieved by divers from the Puerto Rico Emergency Bureau on Monday, according to a news statement from the United States Coast Guard.
According to the United States Shore Guard, the man, who was 27 years old at the time, went on a day excursion to the southwestern coast when he was last seen alive about 5:37 p.m. near the brink of the cliff.
Carlos Garay, Garay’s brother, told WTHR that he was on the cliff with his cousin, and that his cousin constantly cautioned him not to move too near to the edge as they were making a TikTok video. Carlos was filming the experience for TikTok.

According to what Carlos Garay was quoted as saying, “My brother had a TikTok account that he loves to submit movies to.” “Unfortunately, it was what he was attempting to accomplish when he was closer to the brink than he should have been,” said the narrator. “He should have known better.” Garay was discovered in an underwater cave with significant brain injuries as a result of the fall, according to the heartbroken brother who spoke to the television channel.
In a statement, the Coast Guard’s Captain José E. Diaz expressed his sympathies to Edgar Garay’s family and loved ones, saying, “We send our most profound condolences to the family and loved ones of Edgar Garay and wish that they find closure and strength during this most difficult time.”
“We appreciate the efforts of all the Coast Guard, Puerto Rico Police and partner agency emergency responders, particularly the Puerto Rico Emergency Management Bureau dive unit that was able to locate Mr. Garay’s body in such a highly inaccessible and challenging environment,” the commander of the Coast Guard Sector San Juan said in an additional statement. “We appreciate the efforts of the Puerto Rico Emergency Management Bureau dive unit that was able to locate Mr. Garay’s body in such a highly inaccessible and challenging environment.”
The Garay was searched for with the assistance of both aircraft, such as Jayhawk helicopters, and a quick reaction cutter that was 154 feet in length. According to the Coast Guard, many searches were conducted beginning Sunday night and continuing into Monday until the corpse was found.
