Authorities in Louisiana said on Sunday that a shooting that took place in a nightclub in Baton Rouge left a dozen people injured.
According to the authorities, the condition of one of the victims is really serious. The police have not yet made any arrests, but they suspect that the early morning attack was “targeted.”
Press conference held on Sunday afternoon
At a press conference held on Sunday afternoon, Baton Rouge Police Chief Murphy Paul stated that based on the first findings of the investigation, “This was not an act of violence that was carried out at random.” We have reason to suspect that this was a targeted attack, in which one person was the intended victim while others were hurt as a result of the attack.
When the shots were fired at around 1:30 in the morning, there were three Baton Rouge police officers in the area, and they responded to the Dior Bar & Lounge. They began providing care that may save the patient’s life before emergency medical technicians arrived.
According to Paul’s statement, “we feel that their prompt response avoided more injuries.”
Paul begged anybody else who may have knowledge about the incident to come forward, despite the fact that the police had some leads.
“There is someone who is aware of something; act in the appropriate manner. Because it is patently evident that the individual in question has a callous contempt for human life, you can avoid the next event “Paul added.
The police have not disclosed how many of the victims shot were intended targets. Paul did not want to comment on the number of gunmen who started firing.
Paul commented on the continuing probe by saying, “I do understand the curiosity, and I realise that everyone wants answers, but keep in mind… we have to do this right.” “And because I want to do it right every time, there are situations when I can’t disclose information right now.”
Baton Rouge Mayor Sharon Weston Broome, who was in Washington, D.C., last week to discuss the subject of crime with mayors of other major U.S. cities, referred to the killing as “a senseless act of violence that will not go unpunished.”
Broome stated in a tweet that “we will not stop our efforts until everyone feels safe and individuals no longer turn to firearms to resolve their issues.”
Despite the fact that there were less killings in Baton Rouge in 2022 compared to the previous year, the capital city of Louisiana has been plagued by gun violence. Nine persons were injured in a shooting that took place in the early morning hours of October near the campus of Southern University in Baton Rouge.
