American singer Melissa Etheridge has paid a heartfelt tribute to David Crosby, who passed away at the age of 81 after a “long illness”.
On Friday, Jan. 20, the 61-year-old star took to her Instagram account to share an old photo of herself with the late singer, which shows the duo playing a guitar. In the caption, she wrote, “I am mourning the loss of my friend and Bailey and Beckett’s biological father, David. He has given me the gift of family. I will forever be grateful to him, Django and Jan…”
David Crosby supplied sperm to the singer of I’m the Only One and the children of his ex-partner Julie Cypher, Bailey and Beckett. The latter died of opioid addiction in 2020.
Everything you need to know about Melissa Etheridge’s kids
Melissa Etheridge is a proud mother of four, Bailey, Beckett, Miller and Johnnie Rose. As previously mentioned, the now 61-year-old singer fathered two children, Bailey and Beckett, with former partner Julie Cypher. Bailey, now 26, was born in 1997, three years before they split in 2000.
Both children were born via artificial insemination with a sperm donation from musician David Crosby. On May 14, 2020, Etheridge announced on his Twitter account that his son, Beckett, had died of an opioid overdose. She wrote in the post: “Today I joined the hundreds of thousands of families who have lost loved ones to opioid addiction. My son Beckett, who just turned 21, has been struggling to kick his addiction and finally gave in today.”
Melissa Etheridge also spoke about her son’s death to Rolling Stone in August 2020, stating:
“Of course there were things I couldn’t control. And there came a time where I really had to sit down with myself and say, ‘I can’t save him. I can’t give up my life and start trying to live his life, live for him. And I had to consider the possibility that he could die. But I had to get on with my life.”
After splitting from Julie Cypher, Melissa dated actress Tammy Lynn Michaels. In 2006, Tammy gave birth to twins Miller and Johnnie Rose. They were also conceived by artificial insemination from an anonymous donor.
Melissa said her twins may have four half-siblings they didn’t know existed.
Speaking to parents in 2018, Melissa said her twins may have four half-siblings they didn’t know existed.
“But they gave me the option to buy the rest [from the sperm donor] for free. I was financially able to do this so they didn’t have 20-30 half-siblings. So now it’s off the market. There are no more half-siblings. For me, it was protection. We take this position lest they want something from you.”
Melissa Etheridge and Tammy separated in 2010. Three years later, the Come to My Window singer was ordered to pay Tammy $13,000 a month in spousal support and $10,000 a month in child support.
