The @GovJunjunDavide received a certificate of appreciation from the Cebu Province Association of Accredited Cooperatives (CPAAC), led by President Elias O. Baquero, for recognising CPAAC and giving resources, such as a Php15-million cooperative facility.
Mission of CPAAC
Cebuanos must be aware that the Cebu Province Association of Accredited Cooperatives (CPAAC) is still operating and trustworthy throughout Cebu Province.
During a conference by Attorney Herculean Rizon, the Cebu Provincial Government’s consultant on cooperatives under Governor Hilario “Junjun” Davide III, CPAAC was established on February 20, 2015. He currently holds the vice governor position.
For them to speak with a unified voice, CPAAC aspires to “work with all cooperatives authorised by the Cebu Provincial Government.”
The goal of CPAAC is to collaborate, offer new perspectives, and act as a forum to discuss issues about the cooperative sector and proposed Plans and Programs Activities. It also aims to hasten participation in and connections between cooperatives, which are the proper drivers of development in the Province of Cebu.
What is the purpose of electing COOP?
Jude Thaddeus Durano Sybico, a former board member and the head of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan’s Committee on Cooperatives, proposed an amendment to the Cebu Provincial Ordinance on Accreditation through CPAAC and to add a provision that requires mandatory membership of accredited cooperatives in CPAAC.
In other words, a cooperative that receives accreditation automatically joins CPAAC. According to figures from the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA), Cebu Province is home to 583 cooperatives with more than 245,000 members, but only 67 have received CPAAC accreditation.
Rizon asked CPAAC to hold internal elections for coop district representatives in October 2015. One representative was chosen for each District 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6, as there are six cooperative districts in Cebu Province.
To suggest candidates to Governor Davide for appointment as members of the Cebu Provincial Cooperative Development Council, the coop district representative elections are held (CPCDC).
