Securing our future
As our country faces an increase in unlawful border crossings at our southern border, Governor Abbott is taking action with the most comprehensive border security strategy of any state in U.S. history. This includes: securing $4 billion in funding; launching Operation Lone Star and deploying thousands of Texas National Guard soldiers and Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) troopers; capturing and imprisoning criminals trespassing or committing state crimes along the border; providing resources, including the acquisition of 1,700 unneeded steel panels for the border wall; busing migrants to Washington, D.C.; and signing memorandums of understanding with four Mexican governors.
The Governor achieved significant legislative victories in the 87th Legislative Session to build a safer, freer, and more prosperous future for Texas, including extending broadband access, barring localities from defunding police, overhauling the Electric Reliability Council of Texas, and weatherizing the state’s power grid to guard against catastrophic weather occurrences. Other victories include the ratification of Constitutional Carry, the preservation of religious freedoms, and the enactment of the heartbeat bill, which prevents abortion on any unborn child with a heartbeat.
In previous sessions, landmark legislation included the Governor’s priorities of reining in skyrocketing property taxes, investing more in our classrooms and teachers, keeping our schools safe, combating human trafficking, strengthening disaster preparedness and response, reforming the child protective system, reining in regulations, improving Texas roads, and cutting billions of dollars in taxes.
