President Donald Trump will post a video on Tuesday (19) with a farewell message. Prior to that, the White House released an excerpt from his speech.
“This week a new administration begins and we pray that it succeeds in ensuring America’s security and prosperity,” Trump said in the video, according to AFP.
Trump spent weeks saying he didn’t admit defeat at the polls and was slow to admit he should step down. He tried to change the outcome of the vote over the course of two months, and only stopped after his supporters invaded the US Congress.
The incitement to this invasion motivates an impeachment process against Trump, approved in the House and awaiting analysis in the Senate.
The Republican is living his last hours in power. Joe Biden’s inauguration is scheduled for 2 p.m. (Brasilia time) this Wednesday (20). Trump said he would not participate in the ceremony, breaking a century-old tradition that symbolizes the peaceful exchange of power.
