Video game giant Ubisoft announced an agreement with Netflix on Tuesday (27) to create programs based on its hit title “Assassin’s Creed”.
The game’s first project, based in France and the main streaming service, is a series that the two companies say will be an “epic adaptation” with real actors from the game franchise. The news from the Alliance comes before the latest version of Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla launches on November 10th, which will take it back to the time of the Vikings.
The deal opens up the possibility for Netflix and Ubisoft to create live, animation and anime action series based on the game’s stories. “We’re excited to be working with Ubisoft to bring to life the rich, multi-level narrative that Assassin’s Creed loves so much,” said Netflix Original Series Vice President Peter Friedlander.
Action RPG games are known for their historical fiction as they create adventures in times like the Crusades and the Renaissance, the French and American Revolutions. Assassin’s Creed protagonists include a Renaissance Italian, a 12th century Syrian, a pirate and a colonial Indian.
The game’s guide is lineage shared with an assassin who is part of a group fighting oppressive forces. Since its launch in 2007, the game has sold over 155 million units worldwide to be among the top-selling franchises, according to Ubisoft.
“We’re thrilled to be creating an Assassin’s Creed series with Netflix and look forward to developing the next saga in the Assassin’s Creed universe,” said Jason Altman, director of Ubisoft’s film and television division.
Ubisoft also announced offers on Tuesday for its online subscription service, which will be available on Amazon’s and Google’s Luna and Stadia cloud gaming platforms, respectively.
