A British couple got lucky after a neighbor left a pile of rubbish bags in a garage that contained a real treasure trove of toys from the Star Wars saga worth £ 400,000 (R $ 2.9 million).
The couple, who live in Stourbridge, Central England, were unsure what to do with so many dolls and spaceships that their neighbor has collected over the years, The Times newspaper said on Friday (6).
It was his son who came up with the idea of calling an auction house to estimate the value of all the material, including the parts that are still in the original packaging. “Some were a little damp due to the way they were stored, but this is the nicest collection of Star Wars items I have ever seen,” Astons Auctionneers expert Chris Aston told the UK newspaper.
“We have received expressions of interest from everyone and have been confident that the sale will be a success,” he added.
Among the items for sale was a commander of the Star Destroyer, one of the ships in the Galactic Empire’s fleet – one of only two examples known in their original packaging. The piece sold for 32.5 thousand pounds (R $ 237 thousand).
A statuette by Jawa, the little creature with a hood and bright eyes, in its original packaging – one of the ten known examples – found a buyer for 27,300 pounds (199,000 R $). The set of eight characters, inspired by the movie “Return of the Jedi,” cost the collector less than US $ 2 (R $ 11.1) in the early 1980s, and sold for 1,400 pounds (R $ 10,200).
Objects like the Storm Trooper helmet, the Empire costumes and the eye of the little R2D2 robot, who has participated in all nine films of one of the world’s most famous cinema shows, attract collectors willing to pay anything to get a piece to acquire this universe.
A statuette of Luke Skywalker sold as a toy for children in 1978 sold for $ 25,000 at an auction organized by Sotheby’s and eBay in 2015. According to Aston, the couple were “delighted” with their happiness: “I’m getting dressed.” I don’t know if they had an idea in mind, but they must feel the same way as if they won the lottery. “
