The political background to the dispute over the Brazilian 5G; Listen to the podcast – 12/09/2020 – Podcasts

The federal government should hold the 5G auction in the first half of next year, which will be one of the most important in the world. The fifth generation of the Internet is not only faster, but should also enable the so-called Internet of Things with connected devices and vehicles.

However, the geopolitical dispute between the US and China could exclude China’s Huawei devices from the Brazilian 5G auction. The company has been in the country for 22 years and its technology resides on 40% of the country’s 3G and 4G networks.

The ideological wing of the federal government is aligned with the administration of Donald Trump, who accused the Chinese company of disclosing data to the Chinese Communist Party and restricted the company’s operations in the country. However, behind the scenes of the Brazilian government, opinions differ over Huawei’s restriction in Brazil.

In episode (8) of this Wednesday, the Café da Manhã speaks to the Folha reporter Julio Wiziack about the disputes over 5G in the country.
