On Friday morning in Buenos Aires, President Javier Milei of Argentina had a meeting with Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken of the United States to talk about the ways in which he is aligning Argentina’s foreign policy with that of the United States.
U.S. top diplomat Antony Blinken also praised Argentina’s libertarian leader Javier Milei for his efforts to stabilize his country’s crenelated economy, and the talks mostly shadowed U.S. involvement in mining critical minerals in Argentina.
Blinken elucidated his opinion that The U.S. was exploring investment opportunities in critical minerals, especially lithium, through its International Development Finance Corporation and a new Minerals Security Partnership and also adding Washington wants U.S. companies to remain Argentina’s partner of choice.
Statistics also support the meeting as, in addition to being Argentina’s largest foreign investor and its third-largest trade partner, the United States has the most control of any country over the International Monetary Fund, to which Argentina owes $40 billion.
Economist and former acerbic commentator Milei is seen to adopt a fiercely pro-American position, although her ideological views are more in line with those of Republican former US President Donald Trump, who is the primary opponent of President Joe Biden in elections later this year. She seems to encounter a contrast of ideologies in this case but is still moving with Antony Blinken and the US.
This also marks the most senior member of the Biden administration to visit Argentina since Milei took office last year.Secretary of State Blinken has promised “shock therapy” for the economy through austerity measures during his meeting.
At a press conference, Blinken declared, “The work that’s being done to stabilize the economy is absolutely vital,” and he described his earlier-day discussion with Milei as “incredibly positive.”
The scenes looked a lot more positive after the meeting was over, and they were on their toes to different routes. Both men were scheduled to catch different planes for Washington a few hours later. Mr. Blinken was returning to President Biden and the White House.
Mr. Milei was on his way to CPAC, the Conservative Political Action Conference, where he was scheduled to speak before former President Donald J. Trump. It seemed highly likely that his address would be a tirade against the perils of the left.
