Recently, a sad news is being reported by the sports world that prominent sports administrator Simon Weatherill died on 20 January 2024 at the age of 67. The cause of his death is said to be heart attack. He fainted due to a heart attack in the water while competing in the Portsea Swim Classic. It is being told that after going about 300 meters away from the finish line, he started going inside the water when a standing kayaker noticed him and with the help of lifeguards, he was brought to the shore but due to a heart attack, he breathed his last. Had taken “Simon was a keen swimmer and former CEO of the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Center (MSAC) and the State Sports Center Trust,” his family said in a statement after his death.

“He continues to provide guidance and training across the sports industry and wider sectors. He was very fond of swimming in his professional and personal life. He lived at Safety Beach and was a regular bayside swimmer, competing in local and international swimming competitions.”

Following his death, Matt Mahon, president of the Portsea Surf Live Saving Club, said in a statement: “Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of the male swimmer who tragically died today.”

Jeff Kennett, former Victorian Premier and Hawthorn chairman, expressed his sadness at his death, saying “I am very sad to hear of the death of Simon Wetherill today.”
