A 58-year-old man, believed to be Peter Murrell, was in arrest and being questioned by detectives, according to Police Scotland. The couple’s home in Glasgow and the SNP party’s headquarters in Edinburgh are among the locations where officers are conducting searches as part of the probe.

The SNP stated in a statement made public following his arrest that it would not be commenting on the probe. The SNP has been cooperating completely with this investigation and will continue to do so, but it is obviously inappropriate to comment on any ongoing police investigation.
Why Did Peter Murrell Resign?
When Ms. Sturgeon visited an SNP youth camp he had organized, Mr. Murrell had already met her. The couple wed in 2010. Early in his career, Mr. Murrell served in Alex Salmond’s constituency office in Banff and Buchan. He is credited with helping the party win the 2007 election, which led to the first Salmond administration.
He has been the subject of inquiries from his party regarding £600,000 ($747,996) in missing funds that SNP activists had collected for a second referendum on Scottish independence. After the Supreme Court ruled that Westminster must authorise a second referendum, political rivals urged the SNP “to do the right thing” and return the money to the activists.
