Great Trainer John Spearing Passed Away at 82

After a lengthy illness, John Spearing, who was referred to as a “top man who trained some great winners,” passed away at the age of 82.

John has won more than 800 races, most notably with Run And Skip, who won the Welsh National and the Anthony Mildmay, Peter Cazalet Memorial Chase and finished fourth behind Dawn Run in the Cheltenham Gold Cup that was held in the year 1986. He has also won races over jumps and on the flat. Despite suffering life-threatening injuries in a serious gallops accident five years ago, Spearing retired in January and was Britain’s second-longest-serving trainer.

Although John Spearing was diagnosed with lung cancer in the year 2021, he lived to be one of Britain’s most powerful and well-known horse trainers for more than 50 years. When he finally handed in his license just five days ago, he was the second trainer in the nation with the second-longest tenure.

Run and Skip, who won the Welsh Grand National in the year 1985, was his best horse. In the year 1986 Cheltenham Gold Cup, that horse finished fourth to the legendary Dawn Run. He was a generous individual whose outstanding work earned him a great deal of respect.

What Did John’s Daughter Say?

On Friday, his daughter Teresa informed his fans about his passing away news saying that John, who was diagnosed with lung cancer in the year 2021, was peaceful till yesterday. She continued that in the Kempsey-based Lawns Nursing Home, he received excellent care.

Spearing, who was raised on the outskirts of Moreton-In-Marsh on the land that his brother David still farms, got his permit in the year 1965. His first winner under the rules was Wrens Yarn, which he rode himself, at Worcester in the year 1969.

After being asked to train Glendale, a disappointing horse with whom he won 13 races, he received a full license and spent the last three decades of his career at Kinnersley Stables, the Rimell family’s stronghold in Worcestershire.

He handled the Hustling Post Pursue and Sky Bet Pursue with Kindness Rimell’s Simon in the year 2007, while the pick of his Level ponies included Recorded champs Vax Woman, Vax Star, Croeso and Pintle in addition to Fast Chap, who won noteworthy multiple times at Beverley.

Run And Skirt won four significant distance pursues in a bustling 1985-86 season, despite not being difficult to prepare, and Teresa Skewering reviewed that it was amazing what her dad did with that horse. Moreover, she recalled that after school, they would all hold Run And Skip as he stood in the equivalent of a jacuzzi filled with ice and salt to keep him sound.

Peter Scudamore, one of John’s closest friends, showed his gratitude by stating that John was an excellent trainer and horse feeder, and he concluded by expressing his admiration for John. Moreover, David Evans, a fellow trainer and longtime friend of John, said that he was a very good trainer who used his knowledge and effort to seize this opportunity. He further said that John used to be exceptionally self-saved.

Andrew Thornton rode his ponies once and guaranteed that his ponies were constantly fit and fine. He praised John for his years of hard work. Last but not least, we can say that John Spearing was a great trainer who worked hard and loved his horses.
