Kia Joorabchian has reacted angrily to Jamie Carragher’s comments regarding his influence at Everton.
Carragher questioned the “unhealthy relationship” between Joorabchian and Toffees owner Farhad Moshiri on Monday night after Everton fired Frank Lampard.
Why did Farhid moshiri fired Frank lampard?
“I remarked on this show six to twelve months ago that Everton are the worst run club in the country, and it wasn’t a casual statement – I felt it,” Carragher added. “You start with the owner, Farhad Moshiri, who has no idea what he’s doing but a lot of money. He’s invested a lot of money. He has a toxic connection with Kia Joorabchian, and that has generated a slew of issues at Everton.”
But the agent retaliated on talkSPORT on Wednesday, justifying his contacts with the club while slamming Carragher.
“When Simon Jordan says anything, I appreciate it because he’s an intelligent guy,” Joorabchian remarked.
“In contrast to Jamie Carragher, who regrettably lives in a glass house, spits out car windows, and has no education in terms of his history when he makes a statement.”
“I’ve done three moves of my players [to Everton] throughout the time of Farhard’s career at Everton,” Joorabchian, who previously ran afoul of Sir Alex Ferguson when bringing Carlos Tevez to and from Manchester United, said.
“Richarlison, who was a huge success. Bernard was a free move from Shakhtar, and he was a player who wasn’t a complete catastrophe and performed admirably.
“We had Carlo Ancelotti, who was the only manager they’ve accepted [from my clients] as a recommendation, and we always do the same with any team in the Premier League if they’re searching for a manager – we always propose our client.
“We were also engaged in the El-Ghazi loan, which was part of the Lucas Digne move and an FFP situation, but that didn’t work out owing to the change of manager, and he wasn’t in the new manager’s plans.”
Joorabchain denied he had a toxic relationship with Moshiri
Joorabchian went on to refute Carragher’s claim that his relationship with Moshiri was problematic, citing Frank Lampard’s selection over Vitor Pereira in January as an example.
“In previous clubs, I’ve been busy. Last year, I proposed Vitor Pereira, but they preferred Lampard, which was a board decision.
“It was even suggested on Sky that [Everton chairman] Bill Kenwright and Everton CEO Denise Barrett-Baxendale had nothing to do with the club.
“Jamie stated that and, again, individuals who say things like that haven’t done their homework and misinform the public, and it’s extremely unjust for those folks. I know for a fact that Farhad did not have sole authority over the manager the last time. Denise Barrett-Baxendale was heavily involved in the creation of the board.
“We offered them numerous players during the summer, but they turned them all down. Tarkowski, Coady, Maupay, McNeil, and so on. All of the loans and signings were done entirely by them; we had no participation in any way.”
Continuing his defence, Joorabchain mentioned a number of players who he said were presented to club executives for transfer in prior years but did not end up on Merseyside.
“The question is, what is our role? Our role is to convey what we have as a client list and say, ‘This is what we have’. And Everton has ignored all of our advice. As a result, we cannot wield such power.
“In the past, when Bruno Guimaraes was leaving Athletico Paranaense, we offered him £16 million. They didn’t like him and chose [Jean-Philippe] Gbamin instead. Diego Carlos was promised £11 million before joining Sevilla, and he is now at Aston Villa. When [Real Madrid defender] Eder Militao was leaving Sao Paulo, we offered him a contract.”
Managerless Everton is now 19th in the Premier League table, having won only three of their 20 games this season.
