The Whitehaven Cricket Club shared the sad news of Arthur Lamb’s passing on their official Facebook page. As the message says
Hard to believe we’re writing this, but the club got some terrible news over the weekend. On Friday night, we lost Arthur Lamb, a pillar of our club, Cumbrian cricket, and his community.
Our hearts and prayers go out to Arthur’s family, his many clubmates and friends, and all those he has assisted over the years. As a result of his efforts, our club has produced a whole generation of talented young players. This is a tremendous setback for us, and it still hasn’t sunk in.
On Friday night, Arthur was instructing our Junior teams with the customary patience, tenacity, and joy that have characterised his coaching—wishing you all the love in the world.
Arthur Lamb Cause of his death
Arthur Lamb’s unexpected death once again rocked the cricketing community in Cumbria. Whitehaven Club waiter Arthur Lamb passed away so young, at age 31. Lamb died in his home in Distington. Lain Denny and Ken Reid, two Whitehaven club members, passed away just before the holidays.
“He was just an all-around great man who liked his cricket and the local community,” said Arthur Brown, a member of the Whitehaven cricket team.
Whitehaven said on its official Facebook page, “We can scarcely believe we are writing this. The sad news was received by the club over the weekend. Arthur Lamb, a stalwart of our club, Cumbrian cricket, and his home town, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Friday night.
Our hearts go out to Arthur’s loved ones, both in and outside the club, and to everyone, he cheered on.
About Arthur Lamb
For a brief while, he served on the Cumbria County Council as a representative for the Conservative Party. Before that, he was on the executive board of the Umpires Federation and a committee member for the Cumbria Cricket League.
The Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle is the new home for Arthur, who has recently moved there for work. At a young age, he also worked as a staff member at Whitehaven’s West Cumberland Hospital.
A close friend of his once observed, “He has a very giving person by the nature and fostered the young generation of our club and had had a big impression on so many young people.”
