A man accused of biting off the ear of a 78-year-old man at a light-rail train station near Portland, Oregon, told detectives he mistook the victim for a robot assigned to assassinate him. On Wednesday, Koryn Daniel Kraemer was charged with second-degree assault in Multnomah County District Court, Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office says.

The man accused of punching an elderly man at a Gresham light rail station on Tuesday, according to a statement released by the Multnomah County District Attorney’s office on Wednesday, informed responding authorities that he had been drinking.

Koryn Daniel Kraemer, 25, was charged with second-degree assault in connection with the incident, and the district attorney’s office has asked that he be kept without bond until his trial.

On Wednesday, a bored Kraemer appeared in court with a deputy before a Multnomah County judge. He began with a “not guilty” plea.

The DA’s statement included some information on the allegedly committed incident. It happened shortly after two a.m. on Tuesday at the Cleveland TriMet MAX station in Gresham, off Northeast 8th Street.

How does the suspect assault the victim?

When police from Gresham and the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office came to arrest Kraemer, he was still biting the victim, according to reports.

State Representative Ricki Ruiz, who represents a big part of Gresham, said, “I was just shocked.” Seeing something like this so close to where I live is scary, scary, and worrisome.

What happened to the victim?

According to a probable cause affidavit, At 2 a.m. Police and deputies were called to a light rail station in Gresham on Tuesday after a caller reported seeing a large amount of blood and an offender standing over a victim.

The affidavit says that police had to use force to get Kraemer away from the victim, who was then taken to the hospital. The affidavit says that the victim’s right ear was slightly off during the event, and a part of his skull was showing. The report noted that he was unconscious but in good health otherwise.

According to authorities, the suspect identified himself as El Baker and was apprehended under that alias. Staff at the Multnomah County prison soon recognized the suspect as Kraemer, who had recently moved from Georgia to Portland, according to the affidavit.
