BBC Breakfast fans slam Sally Nugent

Presenting BBC Breakfast, Sally Nugent had to hold back her tears live on air. Jon Kay and Nugent co-hosted the show on Tuesday, and after a segment about guide dogs, Nugent appeared to be in tears. In his words at the time, Nugent said: “I’m beyond excited to take over as the next host of BBC Breakfast and provide the nation with the most recent news, notable entertainment guests, and stories that matter every week. It’s a pleasure to replace Louise on the UK’s most popular breakfast programme “.

Then, when Kay inquires about her wellbeing, she responds, “No. I doubt my ability to continue. What a remarkable thing, however, to be able to work with a dog in that capacity and then transfer it for the subsequent phase of its task. “I’m surprised there’s a shortage; I’d have thought there’d be people lined up around the block, but I guess it’s a big commitment, isn’t it?,” Kay retorted.

After Louise Minchin left in 2021, Nugent assumed her position as the show’s permanent host. For the previous ten years, she had hosted sports segments and served as a replacement presenter.

When speaking at the time, Nugent exclaimed: “I’m absolutely thrilled to become the new presenter of BBC Breakfast and bring the country the latest news, top entertainment guests, and stories that matter every week. Being a part of the UK’s most popular breakfast show and taking over for Louise is an honor. “.

The most recent addition to the BBC Breakfast cast is Kay, who came on board on a permanent basis after Dan Walker left for Channel 5 last year. Similar to Nugent, Kay had experience serving as a backup host in the event that one of the regular hosts was unable to do so. Charlie Stayt and Naga Munchetty are the other regular hosts of BBC Breakfast.

About Sally Nugent Career

Prior to reporting on and reading the sports news on BBC North West Tonight, she held her first media position at BBC Radio Merseyside. She started working for BBC News in 2003 as a sports reporter, appearing on national bulletins, before transitioning to presenting sports news on the BBC News Channel (then known as BBC News 24). For the 2006 FIFA World Cup, she went to Germany and hosted Sportsday from there. Following that, Nugent worked as a news correspondent for television, radio, and as a fill-in presenter on the BBC News Channel.

Nugent started co-presenting BBC Breakfast as a freelancer in November 2011 to cover for absent regular hosts. After the program moved to a new location at Media City in Salford in April 2012, she began hosting sports bulletins on Breakfast alongside Mike Bushell. She became one of the regular co-presenters of the Breakfast team after appearing on the Christmas Eve 2012 episode with Bill Turnbull, through to September 2021, reporting on Emma Raducanu’s historic victory in the US Open tennis championship.
