One of soccer’s all-time greats, Pelé played for the Brazil national team and Brazilian club Santos for nearly two decades, scoring more goals than any other player.
Pele had been fighting cancer for a while, and recently, doctors said this week, his health deteriorated when he was hospitalised to manage his cancer medicines.
In a journey that started on the streets of Sao Paulo state, where he would kick a sock filled with newspapers or rags, Pele led Brazil to the pinnacles of soccer and developed into a global ambassador for his sport.
Pelé is the only player mentioned alongside the late Diego Maradona, Lionel Messi, and Cristiano Ronaldo when discussing the greatest soccer players.
What happened to Pele?
Brazilian football legend Pele, 82, is presently confined to the hospital due to a lung infection. Pele stated on Saturday that despite his health concerns, he felt “powerful, with a lot of `hope.”
Football star Pele says he is “strong, with a lot of hope” while in the hospital. I wish to maintain everyone’s composure and optimism, my friends,” Pele wrote in an Instagram post. I’m strong, full of hope, and I continue with my treatment as usual,” he added.
Pele, a well-known and talented athlete of the 20th century, is the only player in football history to have won three World Cups (1958, 1962, and 1970).
He accumulated more than 1,200 goals before quitting in 1977, during one of the most illustrious careers in sports, gaining the nickname “O Rei” (The King). Pele’s health has worsened in recent years, but he has managed it with his characteristic good humour.
His cancer struggle
Pele, the most well-known football player in history, was hospitalised earlier this week while treating colon cancer.
Bowel cancer was discovered to be present in Pele in September 2021. On Tuesday, he was transported to the Albert Einstein Medical Center with a respiratory illness. There, his cancer treatment was examined.
It was decided to move Pele to palliative care after the evaluation. As chemotherapy’s anticipated effects faded, he was transferred to end-of-life care. Pele’s daughter claims that her father underwent another hospitalisation while battling cancer.
Earlier on Saturday, the Brazilian legend’s attending physicians declared his health to be “stable.” They remarked that he had not experienced any bad luck the day before.
Pele “has had a positive reaction to therapy without any worsening in the clinical picture in the last 24 hours,” according to a statement from medical staff at Sao Paulo’s Albert Einstein Hospital.
Rumours on social media
On Friday, online rumours about the purported death of the football player gained traction. On social media, death rumours about Pele spread quickly. Following the spread of the unsubstantiated news, hundreds of followers started leaving condolence messages on the Facebook page.
Additionally, the death hoax infuriated the Twittersphere as usual. On Saturday, December 3, 2022, the football player’s agents formally confirmed that Pelé is not dead.
“He now joins the lengthy list of well-known individuals who have fallen for this con. He is still alive and well, despite what you may have read online, so stop believing it.
Some fans expressed their displeasure at the false news, saying it was reckless, disturbing, and cruel to the fans of the beloved sportsman.
Pele was a star from a young age. At 17, he dominated the 1958 World Cup, scoring two goals in the championship match and three in the quarterfinals to kickstart his career and the Brazilian national team’s soccer dynasty.
How Did Pale Die?
Pele is not deceased. He posted on Instagram that the flow of messages of love from all over the world “keeps me full of energy” and reported that he is eager to “watch Brazil in the World Cup too!”
Doctors did not refer to media claims earlier in the day that the three-time World Cup winner was undergoing end-of-life treatment.
Pele was admitted to the hospital earlier this week for a “re-evaluation” of the chemotherapy he has received since surgery to remove colon cancer in September of last year.
Pele received support from spectators and athletes during the World Cup in Qatar. French striker Kylian Mbappe tweeted on Saturday, “Pray for the King.”
Before his team’s round of 16 encounters against Senegal, England captain Harry Kane spoke out in favour of Pele. We express our warmest wishes to him, as well as to his entire family, Kane stated.
“He is an inspiration to us in our sport, a fantastic footballer, and a wonderful human being. We hope he does well.
Fans reaction
We pray to The Merciful-Al-Rahman tonight with Pele in our hearts. He lives longer and has a happy ending, thanks to the Healer-Alshifaa. All creation knows that death is inevitable, regardless of one’s wealth, poverty, fame, or societal position. Be good-hearted in your preparation. #Pele
I was taken aback and astonished to learn that Pele wasn’t feeling well. He informed me he was going back to the hospital but wasn’t in danger. Before the legendary footballer’s condition became public knowledge, according to Arsene Wenger, he communicated with him.
We are sending Pele, who has been placed on end-of-life support, our deepest condolences. Legend of the game, wishing him well.
