Nick Foles is most known for his outstanding Super Bowl performances, which enabled the Philadelphia Eagles to defeat one of the NFL’s top teams, the New England Patriots. And we’re all eager to watch what Foles accomplishes next once the NFL season gets underway. Football aside, every great player has a wonderful family behind them, and fans are interested to see what Tori Foles looks like in real life.
Tori and Nick’s story reflects the “love at first sight” feeling. Elite Daily notes that the two went to the University of Arizona, where they first met. Of course, Foles was playing football at the time and Tori was on the volleyball team. And when Nick first saw Tori on his way to a football game, he reportedly exclaimed thinking, “Wow, this might be the most beautiful person I’ve ever seen.”
They started dating after they both graduated from college in 2011, but it seems like Nick thought they would end up together.
His brother played for the Eagles before Nick
Although Tori and Nick didn’t date while in college, they did became close friendships. And they connected through football pretty early on. Oddly enough, according to Bustle, Evan, Tori’s brother, began competing for the Eagles as a tight end in 2012. And Heavy adds that before becoming brothers-in-law, both Nick and Evan had a brief career with the Eagles (Nick and Tori got engaged in 2014). 2013 marked the year of her POTS diagnosis.Tori’s health issues have already made headlines in the media. CNN explains that she was diagnosed with postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome, or POTS, when she was in her mid-twenties.
When you have POTS, your autonomic nervous system malfunctions, causing your body to function involuntarily. Typically, people with this condition experience extreme tiredness, gastrointestinal problems, and dizziness.
Most people with this condition are women and it affects between 1 and 3 million Americans. One of the most telling symptoms of POTS is a sharp increase in heart rate when you go from sitting to standing. Normally, when you rise from a seated position, your heart rate increases by 10 to 15 beats per minute. But POTS patients experience an increase of 30 to 60 beats, causing them to pass out.
Tori was having a heart attack when she was diagnosed, and the couple even got engaged at the Mayo Clinic. “We’ve never had a wedding ceremony, we’ve never had a honeymoon, but…just to see her strength and to see her determination and her health continue to improve…it’s amazing,” said said Nick. “It gives me strength because I know she faces it every day.”
Tori also later revealed that she had an underlying diagnosis of Lyme disease.
Tori and Nick Foles are both very religious
The Christian faith plays a big role in Nick and Tori’s life. The Washington Post notes that Nick has even said he would love to take care of high school students when he graduates from football. As he told The Associated Press, “I took a leap of faith last year and signed up for seminary classes. I wanted to keep learning and challenging my faith. And like Nick, Tori is very involved in religion. Notes of turmoil Tori wrote in a blog post that coping with her illness has been “a journey of faith, hope, and trust in the process God has in place for me.” Also referring to her husband’s success in the field, she wrote, “We’ve learned that the best thing to do is just embrace this crazy lifestyle and enjoy the process that God is constantly creating.”
Their daughter was born in 2017
Because of her potties, CNN notes that Tori wasn’t sure if she could have kids. “I always knew I wanted to have kids, but there were days when I couldn’t take care of myself, so how was I supposed to take care of a baby?” she said . Luckily, she was able to have a daughter, Lily James, in June 2017 after focusing on managing her illness through a healthy lifestyle.
To keep her illness at bay and take care of herself and Nick’s daughter, Tori said she needed to be “more disciplined” than ever. “Having a system and a routine is important.”
For Nick, his daughter and his wife are the most important aspects of his life. Before the latest Super Bowl, Bustle notes that Nick said he felt lucky to be able to go home to his wife and daughter after all was said and done. And when it comes to her daughter, she said, “I know she’s going to grow up and I want her to be proud of her father.”
