Stella-Lily McCorkindale, a five-year-old child from West Belfast who died from an illness connected to the bacterial infection Strep A, has been remembered with condolences.
It is believed that she took ill last week and was sent to the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children, where she was treated for three days in critical care before passing away on Monday.
Black Mountain Primary School girl dies
The young girl was a P2 student at Black Mountain Primary School and a resident of the Shankill Road neighbourhood.
Stella-parents, Lily’s Robert and Colette, and a larger family circle survive her. Her relatives characterized her in an obituary as “our brightness, our only sunshine.” She will be put to rest on December 14th, next Wednesday.
In a Facebook post, her aunt Cheryl McCorkindale stated that it was a “true honour” to name the young girl her niece.
“She was a beautiful, sweet, loving, and funny little girl who fought hard to stay with us. She was too good for this world,” she said
“Our family will never be the same again. Cannot believe I won’t see her smile again or hear her shout at me for picking on her daddy-her best mate….love you loads, wee woman.”
Friday, the Public Health Agency notified the parents of the youngest students at Black Mountain PS that a student had been diagnosed with a severe type of Strep A.
