Israeli soldiers entered the Gaza Strip as part of the ongoing military operation against the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas, the IDF said on Friday (Thursday evening, 13, in Brazil).
The army only said that “the Israeli air force and ground troops are carrying out an attack in the Gaza Strip.” Consulted by AFP, army spokesman Jonathan Conricus confirmed that Israeli soldiers had entered the Palestinian enclave.
The objectives of the operation have not yet been revealed. In recent days, Israeli officials have said they will take action against the leaders of Hamas, a group that controls the Gaza Strip and is considered a terrorist by Israel and the United States.
The conflict between the two sides has escalated rapidly in recent days, with heavy airstrikes from both sides. Between Monday (10) and Thursday (13), at least 110 people died, including 103 Palestinians.
