U.S. Representative Annie Kuster has announced that she will not seek for reelection this year, marking the end of her 12-year tenure in Congress.
The Hopkinton Democrat has been representing New Hampshire’s 2nd Congressional District since 2013, making him the district’s longest-serving member in history. The district spans the western half of the state and extends from New Hampshire’s southern border to Canada.
“As I look to the future, I am enthused about the work and opportunities that await. “We all have a role to play in advocating for what we believe in,” Kuster said in a statement.
“I always said I was not going to stay in Congress forever — I will not be seeking re-election in 2024.”
Kuster stated that she will continue to lead the New Democrats, a group of approximately 100 center-left House Democrats, until 2024.
Van Ostern prepared to enter
Colin Van Ostern, a former state Executive Councilor with a long history as a political operative, revealed Thursday that he will run for Congress this fall, a day after U.S. Rep. Annie Kuster announced her decision not to seek a seventh term.
Van Ostern was the Democratic nominee for governor in 2016, but was defeated by Chris Sununu.
