An novelist from Utah accused of murdering her husband and then releasing a children’s book about mourning has been charged with attempting to poison him with a sandwich in the past.
Charges againt Kouri Richist
Kouri Darden Richins, 33, was arrested in Park City, Utah, in May of last year on murder charges related to the death of her husband, Eric Richins, from fentanyl intoxication. Prosecutors have now filed an extra attempted murder accusation against Richins for allegedly poisoning her spouse before his death in March 2022.
Summit County prosecutors filed the new charges Monday, alleging Richins attempted to poison her husband at least once previously, on Valentine’s Day. According to new records, Eric ate a sandwich placed in his truck with a letter that day, resulting in hives and blackouts.
Details on Eric Richins’ death
According to the police report, Kouri Richins contacted 911 in the middle of the night a month later after discovering her husband “cold to the touch” at the foot of their bed. He was pronounced dead, and a medical examiner discovered five times the deadly amount of fentanyl in his system.
“One or two tablets could be accidental. Twenty—or five times the deadly dose—is not an accident. “That is someone who wants Eric dead,” Summit County Chief Prosecutor Patricia Cassell stated.
She claims Richins placed the synthetic opiate into a Moscow Mule cocktail she poured for her husband during marital arguments and conflicts over a multimillion-dollar property she bought as an investment.
