Using Facebook, the Garden City Fire Department in Kansas broke the heartbreaking news that their bravest fireman, Larry Nuke Pander, was passing away too soon.

With heavy hearts, we lament the passing of Larry Pander, a vital pillar of our firefighting family. Larry was not just our family’s teacher; he was also a mentor, friend, confidant, and vital member. His exit from our department has left a huge void and an immeasurable impact.
Who was Larry Pander?
Nuke, another name for Larry, was a volunteer firefighter from Holcomb, Kansas. He spent thirty years with the Houston Fire Department and was an IFSAC Instructor I–III.
He trained all of the western Kansas paid and volunteer departments. In addition to serving in the Kansas Fire Department and being a member of the Kansas Fire and Rescue Training Commission, he was the director of the fire program at Garden City Community College.
Larry had 17 years of training expertise and was a student at Houston Community College.
