How Do I Renew My Expired License In Sri Lanka?

Renewing your driver’s license in Colombo, Sri Lanka is a simple task. Renewing your driving license is the responsibility of the Department of Motor Traffic (RMV), Werahara, Sri Lanka. Follow these steps to maintain your legal driving status.  

Documents Required For Renewal Of Driving License In Sri Lanka

  • Duly filled MTA30/2 Offline application (original) 
  • Please complete the application using a black color pen. Fingerprints and signatures have to be placed in front of the authorized officer at the Sri Lankan Embassy.
  • Current Driving License issued by the Department of Motor Traffic, Sri Lanka.
  • Medical Certificate (from respective country)
  • Valid Passport and copy of the data page of the Passport
  • National Identity Card (N.IC.) (it’s not mandatory if the N.I.C. number is mentioned in the Passport)
  • Two black and white passport-size photographs (3.5 cm x 4.5 cm)
  • The English translation should be produced for all documents issued in languages other than Sinhala, Tamil, or English.

  • Get The Medical Report

You can conveniently book an appointment online by selecting the National Transport Medical Institute (NTMI) in any location. Try to arrive at least 20 minutes before your scheduled appointment to facilitate a smooth process. This report is a mandatory. It will confirm your fitness to drive.

  • Go To Rmv Werahera To Renew Your Driver’s License

After obtaining your medical report, go to the DMT RMV in Werahera. There you require some documents which includes – 

  1. Duly completed MTA 30/2 Offline Application
  2. Your current driving license
  3. National ID or passport
  4. Medical Fitness Certificate from NTMI
  • Make The Payment

The renewal fee at RMV Werahera is Rs 2200 for priority one-day service or Rs 1700 for normal service. With priority service, it will take over 3 hours for your card to be printed. For normal service, you will get a temporary license, and the final one will be mailed to your residence through post within three months.

If you are outside Colombo, you can get your medical report from a nearby NTMI branch and then visit a District Secretarial Office for the renewal process. 

Once renewed your license will be valid for 8 years.
