A further arrest in Manhattan this week has been linked to Harvey Weinstein’s estranged wife, Georgina Chapman. Weinstein was detained in New York City on Friday morning.
According to the New York Post, her driver, Cristovoa Proenca, 44, was “charged with criminal mischief for allegedly becoming handsy with a lensman trying to shoot” the Marchesa designer and her two daughters on West 11th Street in the West Village.
Regaining its former status in the fashion industry is a top priority for Chapman’s label. A fashion insider informed the New York Post that “Georgina couldn’t go through with it” after the brand cancelled its runway presentation during New York Fashion Week in February. “She was too frightened to do anything.” —Scarlett Johansson’s Marchesa gown at the Met Gala in early May was the talk of the town.
The New York Times published its explosive investigation about Weinstein’s alleged sexual harassment involving many women on October 5, 2017, the same day the brand staged its wedding presentation. The report led to Weinstein’s firing by his own business and sparked a national conversation on sexual assault. As for the accusations, (Weinstein) has refuted them.
She was born in London on April 14, 1976.
Both of her parents are successful businesspeople; writer Caroline Wonfor and organic coffee pioneer Brian Chapman formed their firm Percol. Both she and Kate Middleton went to Marlborough College. Reportedly, one of her earliest assignments was in a commercial for Head & Shoulders. In 2004, she and her friend and fellow ex-model Keren Craig founded Marchesa. While Chapman has served as a judge on Project Runway, Marchesa was a finalist for the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund in 2006. In 2007, Chapman’s elder brother Edward took over as CEO and co-owner of the company, and the label went on to win Red Carpet Designer of the Year at the British Fashion Awards.
If reports from E! are to be believed, the Hollywood producer first made his move on the actress during a social gathering. “I had no idea who he was,” she fessed up to Vogue. “He isn’t someone you can just brush off or ignore. Because of his charisma and endearing personality, you can’t help but be drawn to him.” In 2012, Weinstein hosted a fundraiser for Barack Obama at his home in Westport. Chapman and Weinstein apparently didn’t make enough use of their Amagansett Hamptons home, so they offered it for $12.4 million in 2017 and sold it for $10 million in January, according to Variety.
According to celebritynetworth.com, Chapman has a personal fortune of $30 million. The Sunday Times of London placed the pair at number 42 on its 2017 list of fashion millionaires, estimating their total wealth at $255 million at the time.
