Ben Falcone, who plays the air marshal that Melissa McCarthy’s character confronts on the plane in Bridesmaids, is married to the hilarious Melissa McCarthy and is a regular collaborator on her films. Falcone has directed McCarthy in three of her films, Tammy, Life of the Party, and The Boss, all of which they co-wrote. Although they’ve just been married for 13 years as of January 2019, they’ve known each other for much longer. If this Hollywood couple is as affectionate in private as they are in public, then there’s no hope for the rest of us.
McCarthy and Falcone’s friendship is built on their mutual love of comedy.
As members of the famed Los Angeles comedic company The Groundlings, the two first crossed paths in 1998. Falcone told The Hollywood Reporter that during a comedy about a Bob Seger-themed holiday, the cast members “howled” their way through it. Falcone said, “From the very first time we spoke, we were on the same page,” in an interview with More, reported on by Us Weekly. The foundation for a friendship built on jokes has been laid. They tied the knot in 2005 and quickly welcomed twins named Vivian and Georgette.
Whoever you ask, they’ll tell you a different story about who’s the funniest. The Hollywood Reporter quotes McCarthy as saying, “Falcone argued, “No way. He’s funnier and smarter; I’m just noisy. It’s just me, the dull structural guy. She is the vivacious one of the two.” But Life of the Party co-star Adria Arjona told PopSugar, “No one makes Ben laugh more than Melissa.” Take that for what it’s worth.
Parenthood strengthened their bond.
During her first pregnancy, McCarthy joked with People magazine: “I’m hoping the kid inherits a lot of Ben’s calm features and less of my spazzy ones.” Even if it’s not evident that Vivian inherited her mother’s laid-back demeanour, she does share several crucial characteristics with her.
McCarthy told Today in an interview, “While Viv and I were checking out the new bedspread I had just purchased, Ben came in, and Viv said, “I simply think it could compete with the headboard.” Ben recoiled in (mock) fear.
Once Ben realised there were two of them, he said, “Oh my God, I can’t have two of you.” “It was her secret, and she told.
Falcone jokes that he is worried they may end up with two Melissas, but if any of his daughters acts defiantly, they agree on how to handle the situation. Threatening to appear in hot pants and a tank top, McCarthy told EW. “I’m taking a ride with their dad. And he’ll let my pal Lisa and I get fairly tipsy in the trunk before we roll into that party and start causing mayhem.”
