Carlos Saura’s Early Life
On January 4, 1932, Saura was born in Huesca, Aragón, Spain. His dad, Antonio Saura Pacheco, was a lawyer and government official from Murcia. Concert pianist Fermina Atarés Torrente was his mother. Carlos, the second of their four children, had two younger sisters, Maria del Pilar, and Mara de los Angeles, as well as an elder brother named Antonio Saura. Antonio rose to fame as an abstract expressionist artist. The four siblings learned about liberal understanding from their parents. The Saura family relocated to Barcelona, Valencia, and Madrid in 1953 because his dad worked for the Interior Ministry. The Spanish Civil War, in which the Nationalists fought against the Republicans, left its influence on Saura’s formative years.
Carlos Saura’s Career
In the years 1957–1958, Saura made Cuenca, his debut movie. His 1962 film Los Golfos, which addressed the topic of juvenile misbehavior in Madrid’s poorest neighborhoods, won praise for its significant social contribution to helping Spanish adolescents. Later, Saura became well-known for her films that featured flamenco and other folk dances. Bodas de Sangre (Blood Wedding), Carmen, and El amor brujo are three of his flamenco-themed films from the 1980s that feature Spanish flamenco dancer Cristina Hoyos. La noche oscura, one of his films from 1989, was submitted to the 39th Berlin International Film Festival.
Carlos Saura’s Personal Life
Carlos Saura has three marriages. Adela Medrano was his first wife. Antonio and Carlos, their two kids, were born. He wed Mercedes Pérez in 1982, and the two of them produced three sons: Manuel, Adrián, and Diego. He was an enthusiastic photographer and accumulated over 600 cameras. Multiple times, his images were displayed. At the age of eight, he started taking pictures. Later, he built his camera and was hired as the Granada Film Festival’s photographer. Saura had at least one son, Shane, with actress Geraldine Chaplin between her two marriages. Anna, a daughter from his third marriage to the actress Eulàlia Ramon, was also his child.
