Patrick Beverley Is Traded From The Los Angeles Lakers To The Orlando Magic

The Los Angeles Lakers are exchanging former All-Defensive guard Patrick Beverley for center Mo Bamba, along with a second-round pick. Bamba was selected by the Magic in the sixth round of the 2018 draught, although he was never given a significant role. It was challenging for the Magic to completely commit to Bamba’s on-court development because of Orlando’s crowded frontcourt, which also included Paolo Banchero, Franz Wagner, Jonathan Isaac, Wendell Carter Jr., and Bol Bol.

Patrick Beverley’s Career

Throughout his first five seasons, Bamba averaged 7.7 points and 4.6 rebounds in 18.3 minutes per game. The 7-footer has demonstrated his offensive versatility by shooting 38.6% on 3.5 tries per game from beyond the 3-point arc and vertically near the basket in the past 2 seasons. When Bamba is guarding, opponents shoot 3.9% worse near the rim than they do on average for the season thanks to his agility. Even at the age of 24, he is still a very young talent.

If the Lakers release Bamba before June 29, his $10.3 million contract for the upcoming season is not guaranteed. To bolster LeBron James and Anthony Davis, the Lakers acquired Beverley from the Utah Jazz this past summer in exchange for Talen Horton-Tucker & Stanley Johnson. Throughout 45 starts for the Lakers, Beverley averaged 6.4 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 2.6 assists in 26.9 minutes without much improving their record. Beverley has a contract for $13 million through this season, after which he will be a free agent.
