For entering the NFL Draft, he missed his senior season. He was a top performer in all categories. He was selected in the first round by the Houston Texans on 28 April 2011. On 31 July 2011, he signed a contract of worth $11.24 Million with The Texans. At the start of the 2011 season, he played all 16 games. Watt was regarded as Texans Team Rookie of the Year.
