Dropzone, a game he created for the Atari 8-bit family and then transferred to other platforms, was written by him. International Karate and its follow-up, IK+, were also made by Archer and were initially designed for the Commodore 64 before being adapted to other platforms. He was also well-known for his pool and snooker tournaments, the first of which was Jimmy White’s Whirlwind Snooker in 1991. (that was initially called 147).

In July 2005, Maclean left Awesome Studios, the production company he helped build and grow, and took over Awesome Play.
