Franco Harris was born in New Jersey on March 7, 1950. He was a famous professional football player in New Jersey. He started playing running back in the National Football League (NFL) for continue 13 seasons for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Cad Harris, his father, was a black soldier who served in World War II and was stationed in Italy during the time of war. His mother was named Gina Parenti Harris. She was a native of Italy and became a “war bride”. She moved with her husband and returned to the United States after the end of the war.

Harris passed his graduation in 1968 from Rancocas Valley Regional High School in Mount Holly Township, situated in New Jersey. Later on, he attended Penn State University and there he played in the Nittany Lions football team.

He started his career in college time and became a professional player. At the start, he won four Super Bowls with the Steelers. He was a lead player in one of the most famous plays of professional football.

He was mainly a blocker for Lydell Mitchell, the All-American running back. He collected 2,002 yards with 24 touchdowns and over 5 yards per carry. He was the main leader of the team in scoring in 1970.

Harris also served as part of the board at Penn State’s Center for Food Innovation and in the last of 2009, he was named a Conti Professor by Penn State’s School of Hospitality Management. He was also entangled in and supplied funding to Penn Staters for Responsible Stewardship.

In the 2009 Pittsburgh mayoral election Franco “Dok” Harris, Harris’s son, started working as a third-party candidate and ended in second place with 25% of the vote. Harris’ more immature brother, Pete Harris, also played football and he died because of a heart attack at age 49 on August 15, 2006.

Harris got married to Dana Dokmanovich. After their marriage, Dana attended many public events and many gatherings with her husband.

Franco Harris Cause of Death

Harris passed away on 20 December 2022, at the age of 72 at his home in Sewickley situated in Pennsylvania.  He passed away just three days before the 50th anniversary of the “Immaculate Reception”. Harris’s death was supposed to be sudden because he was active on social media just some days before his death.

To retire his jersey number he was set to attend a ceremony at halftime on 24 December 2022 during a Steelers game against the Las Vegas Raiders.

After the surprising news of death, tributes started rushing out.
