Kari Ann Lake, a former television news anchor and current politician from the United States, was the Republican candidate for governor of Arizona in 2022. She was born on August 23, 1969. In the early 1990s, Lake started her media career. From 1999 until 2021, she served as the anchor for Phoenix television station KSAZ-TV. Shortly before declaring her run for governor, she resigned from her position as an anchor.
With former President Donald Trump’s support, she went on to win the Republican primary. His campaign has been tainted by a number of scandals, including his promotion of untrue predictions that Trump would win the 2020 presidential election and his support for imprisoning those who have conceded defeat to Trump, including his Democratic opponent, Arizona State Secretary of State Katie Hobbs. Hobbs defeated Lake for governor, but she refused to accept defeat and instead launched a lawsuit to have the results overturned and her candidature recognised as the winner.
Who is Kari Ann Lake?
Conservative Republican Lake identified herself as and identified herself as a “Trump candidate” in 2022. Right-wing radicals backed her throughout her 2022 gubernatorial race. She charged that Democrats and Vice President Joe Biden were pursuing a “demonic agenda.” Lake attended the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), an annual gathering of Republicans and conservatives, in Orlando in 2021 and 2022. In 2022, Lake hailed the Supreme Court ruling in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, which found that there was no federal right to abortion under the U.S. Constitution and repealed Roe v. Wade, and described abortion as “the greatest sin”.
She backed Arizona’s efforts to outlaw both pharmaceutical and surgical abortions. In an opinion piece for the Independent Journal Review, Lake stated that if elected governor, she will construct the unfinished segments of Trump’s border wall with Mexico and deport illegal immigrants who enter Arizona without getting permission from the federal government.
Who Is Kari Lake’s Husband?
Since August 1998, Lake and Jeff Halperin have been married. She was formerly wed to electrical engineer Tracy Finnegan. According to her acquaintances, she used to identify as a Buddhist before 2015, but as of 2022, she did so as a Christian. Lake has referred to both the church she attends and her Christian religion as evangelical. Lake and Mark Finchem filed a lawsuit in April 2022 with the goal of forbidding the use of computerised voting machines in her 2022 election.
Lake and Finchem’s action was rejected by Judge John Tuchi in August 2022, stating that they “lack standing since they have articulated only conjectural assertions of possible damage.” Tuchi also invoked the Purcell principle and the Eleventh Amendment to the US Constitution for his decision.
