West began playing snooker professionally in 1985. He was born on October 24, 1958.

West competed on the professional circuit from 1985 to 1997, earning a peak world rating of 21.

In 1985 and 1988, he advanced to the UK Championship quarterfinals and the same place in the 1988 International Open.

UK Championship

In the UK Championship’s quarterfinals in 1985, West was defeated by Steve Davis 1-9, Jimmy White 2-5 in the 1988 International Open final, and Terry Griffiths 5-9 in the UK Championship final.

He also made it to the English Professional Championship semifinal in 1988 before Neal Foulds upset him 6-9.

1992 Season

When West’s world ranking plummeted to 66th in the early 1990s following the 1992–1993 season, he kicked off the tour at 38.

He finished 179th for the whole 1996–1997 campaign. West participated in the World Championship preliminary round in 2010 to compete again. West was defeated 1-5 by Del Smith in his opening game.

World Seniors Championship

He participated in the 2012 World Seniors Championship, winning three matches to go to the round of 16 when he was defeated by Dene O’Kane 0-2; he also competed in the 2013 competition but lost his opening match to Les Dodd 1-2.
