Ebanie Bridges is an Australian boxer who was born on September 22, 1986. Since March 2022 she has held the IBF women’s bantamweight title. Bridges participated as an amateur in the women’s bantamweight division in the Australasian Golden Gloves in 2016 and 2017, where she took first place. Due to her blonde hair and her instructor Arnel “Bomber” Barotillo, she has earned the moniker “Blonde Bomber.”
Ebanie Bridges Early Life
Bridges were the youngest of three children and spent his childhood in the Greater Western Sydney neighbourhood of Toongabbie. He was born on September 22, 1986. She is the only female in her family and the younger twin by six minutes. Bridges were introduced to karate by her parents when she was five years old. She participated in the sport until she was thirteen.
She began training in kickboxing and muay thai shortly after in high school. Under the instruction of Arina Manta, she subsequently discovered competitive bodybuilding, where she competed for eight years and won multiple regional and state titles.
She described her teenage years as being challenging, but she overcame the challenges with the support of her parents: “At 18, I realised I need to alter my life.” She recalled how terrible her adolescence was, but how she overcame it with the support of her parents: “At 18, I realised I needed to alter my life.”
Bridges idolised Roy Jones Jr., Oscar De La Hoya, Anthony Mundine, and Kostya Tszyu as young man. Between 2016 and 2018, Bridges compiled a 26-4 amateur record, winning the bantamweight state championships as well as the National Golden Gloves crowns in 2016 and 2017. She also participated in the Australian Women’s Selection Tournament in Perth, where she lost to Antonia Kay by a score of 4:1 in the quarterfinals.
Ebanie Bridges Career
In February 2020, Bridges signed an endorsement deal with Split-T Management.She made her United States debut on February 8, 2020, winning a six-round unanimous decision over Crystal Hoy at the Hammond Civic Center in Hammond, Indiana, with judges Jerry Jakubco Nathan Palmer and Skylar Slay winning the fight 60-54 for bridges. In November 2020, following her loss to Jorgelina Guanini, Rachel Ball announced her intention to face Bridges for the vacant WBA bantamweight title which she had originally hoped to face Guanine.
On 13 March 2021 Bridges faced Carol Earl for the vacant Australian National Boxing Federation super bantamweight title at Bankstown City Paceway in Sydney in which Bridges scored a unanimous decision with Ian Batty Wayne Douglas and Kevin Hogan winning the 80th fight scored -72, 80-72 and 79-73 in favour of Bridges. On March 14, Bridges was confirmed to face Shannon Courtenay in a world bantamweight title showdown for the vacant WBA women’s bantamweight title, on Conor Benn’s defence undercard of his WBA Continental title against Samuel Vargas Copper Box Arena on April 10.
Courtenay had initially hoped to fight Rachel Ball, but as Ball recovered from the coronavirus, Bridges stepped in as a late replacement. Following her first professional loss to Courtenay, Bridges was booked for Bec Connolly on August 7, 2021. She knocked down Connolly twice midway through the second round before referee Kieran McCann stopped the fight. Bridges next faced Mailys Gangloff on September 4, 2021. She narrowly won the fight on points, scoring 77-76.
