Emmy Award-winning actor, Kirstie Alley passed at 71

Kirstie Alley, a two-time Emmy Award-winning actor who came to popularity for her role as Rebecca Howe on the NBC sitcom “Cheers,” passed away on Monday due to cancer. She was 71 years old.

The death of Alley was announced via her official social media accounts, which included a message from her children.

Kirstie Alley biography

In 1951, in Wichita, Kansas, Kirstie Louise Alley was born. In 1980, she moved to Los Angeles and began a career as an interior designer. Alley had previously joined the Church of Scientology. She sought treatment for her cocaine addiction through the church’s affiliated Narconon program. She attributes her recovery to this program.

She began her cinematic career in 1982 with “Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan,” which was followed by “Blind Date” and “North and South” in 1985. Two years later, she starred opposite Mark Harmon in the successful comedy “Summer School” by Carl Reiner.

That year, Alley replaced Shelley Long on “Cheers,” one of television’s most popular sitcoms on NBC. In 1991, when She was awarded the Emmy for outstanding performance in a leading role, she made a notoriously obscene acceptance speech in which she complimented her husband, the actor Parker Stevenson. Her second Emmy came for “David’s Mother” in 1994, in which she portrayed the mother of an autistic adolescent.

Kirstie Alley career

Alley’s career peaks also included NBC’s “Veronica’s Closet” (1997-2000), the satirical 2005 Showtime comedy “Fat Actress,” and costarring alongside John Travolta in the three “Look Who’s Talking” films, which began in 1989 and were massive blockbusters.

Alley worked as a spokesman for Jenny Craig’s weight management technique before departing and launching her own business, Organic Liaisons. Later, she returned to Jenny Craig, which had bought her company. Alley has been active and aggressive on social media in recent years. She expressed her support for Donald Trump’s presidential campaign, then deleted the message and claimed to have voted for Trump.

Her apolitical deadpan humor became a social media sensation. “You had a decent go at it… “Thank you for your contribution.”

Kirstie Alley Cause of her death

Alley passed away Monday night following a brief fight with cancer, her daughters reported on her Instagram page.

True and Lillie began the statement announcing her death by saying, “It is with great sadness that we notify you that our wonderful, feisty, and beloved mother passed away after a struggle with cancer that was only recently diagnosed.”

They continued somewhat, “She was surrounded by her closest family members and battled with great vigour, leaving us convinced of her never-ending enthusiasm for life and the next experiences. She was an even more remarkable mother and grandmother than she was a movie icon.”

In response to Alley’s passing, Travolta posted a gorgeous flashback photo of her and the second one of them smiling together.
