Portugal’s judicial police have arrested a 23-year-old man on suspicion of firing the two shots that killed 22-year-old Brazilian Luiz Henrique Froede. According to the investigation, the two young men had been falling out for some time.
Police have not provided the name or nationality of the suspect, who is currently on the run, but must report to authorities every two weeks.
According to police, the shooting took place during an argument, after Luiz Henrique Froede visited the suspect’s home in Alfama, one of the most touristic areas of the Portuguese capital.
“On the day of the incident, the author was at home when he was surprised by the presence of the victim. After an intense discussion, the author, brandishing a gun, fired two shots at the victim which hit her in the head and chest area, “police said in a note sent. to journalists this Wednesday (14).
After the shooting, the owner of the house fled the scene of the crime. Police said he was captured the same day. The firearm used was also seized.
The police note corrected the original information about the victim’s age, indicating that Froede was 22. The first reports said he was 24 years old.
Still according to the police, the young man was rescued by the INEM (National Institute of Medical Emergencies, the Samu of Portugal), but he did not resist the injuries. He died in São José Hospital, also in central Lisbon, on Saturday (10).
Accounts of what happened on the night of the murder are contradictory. An article in the Portuguese newspaper Correio da Manhã said the victim was found abandoned on a street in Alfama.
A video obtained by the SIC station, made by locals, shows the moment when at least four people, speaking in Brazilian Portuguese, tried to help the victim, carrying Froede through the streets of the neighborhood.
In groups of the Brazilian community in Portugal, different versions of the case have also circulated.
Born in Teófilo Otoni, Minas Gerais, Luiz Henrique Froede has lived in Lisbon since 2019.
