Police find 19 charred bodies on road between Mexico and the United States – 24/01/2021 – World

At least 19 cremated bodies were found on a rural road on Saturday in Mexico’s border area with the United States, according to the Tamaulipas prosecutor’s office in the north of the country.

After receiving information, the state police located two charred vehicles with the remains of people, said a statement from the prosecution.

Two charred bodies were in the front seats of one of the vehicles, a van, two more outside and 15 in the rear, the report adds.

According to early investigations, “death was caused by projectiles from guns, then [os corpos] were set on fire. ”The bodies are being analyzed by the expert, but the damage caused by the fire makes it difficult to identify them.

With about 15 thousand inhabitants, the municipality of Camargo is located on the border of the state of Nuevo León and on the border of Texas, in the United States.

The region is the scene of disputes between the Northeast Cartel, which controls part of Nuevo León, and the Gulf Cartel, which has operated in Tamaulipas for decades.

Camargo is a neighbor of Miguel Alemán, a municipality where 24 bodies were found in January 2019, 15 of them burned, as well as five trucks, also set on fire, after clashes between criminal groups.

Mexico is experiencing a wave of violence linked to organized crime, especially drug cartels that are contesting routes to the United States.

According to analysts, one of the challenges that Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador will have in his relationship with the new American president, Joe Biden, will be the strategy against drug trafficking.
