Men’s basketball finds success on the road

The KSU Owls (8-12, 3-6 A-Sun) defeated the Stetson Hatters (5-13, 2-7 A-Sun) with a final score of 75-59. With this win over the Hatters, KSU was able to sweep the road trip to DeLand, Fla. by also defeating Florida Gulf Coast.
During the first half, KSU got off to a quick start by going on a 7-0 run thanks to jump shots for Matt Heramb and LaDaris Green, and a three-pointer from Kurtis Woods.
Stetson later came back to tie the game, making it 9-9, but Woods scored another three-pointer, to gain the lead back for the Owls.
Stetson Hatter, A.J. Smith, was able to hit a shot from the foul line to bring his team within three points. However, his efforts would prove to be too late. KSU controlled the score for the rest of the half, gaining a double digit lead on Stetson, thanks to back-to-back three-pointers by Kelvin McConnell.
In the latter part of the first half, Jon-Michael-Nickerson scored seven points. This gave the Owls a 31-19 lead.
The Stetson Hatters came out of the locker room with passion by going on a 7-2 run. Heramb stepped up again and knocked down a jump shot, while Markeith Cummings and Jonathan Whipple followed. This play made the score 51-35, and KSU added to their lead. Cummings finished with his second double-double on the road trip, this time with 19 points and 11 rebounds.
The Owls’road trip will conclude on Wednesday in Macon versus the Mercer Bears. KSU will be back at home on Saturday, Jan. 30 to face Florida Gulf Coast.
