Athlete of the Week

KSU junior pitcher Brittany Matthews has had an impressive week for the Lady Owls’ softball team.
Matthews got her start April 6 in the first game of a double-header
against Stetson, where she threw a no-hitter and struck out ten batters
as the Lady Owls defeated the Lady Hatters, 2-0.
In the second game of the double-header, Matthews pitched the final
two innings to earn the save, as the Lady Owls came from behind to
defeat Stetson, 6-3.
On April 7, Matthews was impressive once against as she gave up
only two hits and one run, as the Lady Owls won 3-1. Matthews pitched a
complete game and struck out ten batters along the way.
Matthews then earned her second save in as many days, as she went
the final inning and two-thirds to preserve the Lady Owls’ win.
For the weekend, Matthews earned two wins and two saves in 17.2
innings pitched. Along the way, she struck out 26 batters, gave up five
hits, four walks and one earned run.
For her play on the field, Matthews has been named this week’s KSU Athlete of the Week.
