The Office of Alumni Affairs (OAA) is inviting past, present and future students to participate in homecoming Nov. 11-14.

Jennie Kay Coleman, OAA event coordinator, said KSU’s homecoming is a little different than most because it centers around basketball and begins later than most schools’ homecoming events.
According to Coleman, the OAA, Student Life, Residence Life, Athletics Department, Kennesaw Activities Board and other groups partnered together to make this year’s homecoming possible. They planned for ten months to create six events for students and faculty of the past, present and future to enjoy.
Coleman said that among the six events planned, “there are two where all students, faculty and staff are invited to attend. With the exception of the Awards and Recognition Dinners, all of the homecoming events mentioned are free of charge.”
KSU will kick off the homecoming 2009 events open to all students and staff with a lunch and live concert at the Legacy Gazebo Thursday, Nov. 12 at 12:15 p.m. The event will provide Mellow Mushroom and Shane’s Ribshack for purchase from $2-$5 and feature Satisfaction as the music entertainment.
Satisfaction is a well-known Rolling Stones tribute band with a huge fan base. They have opened for big acts such as Lynyrd Skynyrd and Foghat. According to their Web site, rollingstoneshow.com, they are “internationally acclaimed as the most authentic cast and production show available honoring the World’s Greatest Rock & Roll Band.” Even the Rolling Stones themselves praise the band.
The second event offered for everybody at KSU is the homecoming parade. The Office of Student Life is co-sponsoring the parade and will hold it Saturday, Nov. 14 in downtown Kennesaw at noon. The parade will feature registered student organizations that have been working hard to decorate trucks, cars and trailers in this year’s medieval theme.
The outstanding students Coleman wanted to acknowledge for their assistance with this years’ homecoming are senior Katherine Shores, who worked on homecoming flyers and advertisements produced by the OAA; senior Amanda Hooper, whose writing skills, according to Coleman, “have been invaluable in promoting these events through news alerts and press releases;” and junior Mary Katherine McCrary who had a vital role in writing parts of the program for the homecoming dinner.
To learn more about all the events featured specifically for the alumni and throughout homecoming week, such as the Greek Life Alumni Reunion, Athletic Alumni Reunion and the Homecoming Awards and Recognition Dinner, visit the OAA Web site at kennesaw.edu/alumni. The receptions and reunions require attendees to RSVP, which can be done through the Web site.
The OAA encourages all students to celebrate the homecoming of KSU’s alumni this November and partake in the free festivities offered during this “time-honored tradition at KSU.”
